Introductie

Na de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag en enkele omzwervingen ben ik teruggegaan naar Friesland, waar ik geboren ben.
Daar werk ik nu inmiddels alweer zes jaar, voornamelijk aan grafiek.
Ik maak daarbij intensief gebruik van de mogelijkheden van het Grafisch Atelier Friesland te Leeuwarden.


Onlangs heeft het Fries Museum aan aantal werken van mij aangekocht, en tijdens de Friese Mini-Prent Biënnale ontving ik de 1e prijs voor jong talent.
Naast intensief werken in het G.A.F richt ik mij ook op Artist in Residence programma’s in het buitenland en exposities buiten het noorden van Nederland.

Een tijdlang ben ik bezig geweest met het maken van beelden van hedendaagse situaties waarin antropomorfische figuren in voorkomen.
Hierna heb ik getracht de mens juist als heilig icoon neer te zetten, een 21ste-eeuws icoon. Dit is begonnen met een drieluik.

Momenteel kom ik weer terug naar waar ik begonnen ben.
Ik zet de mens niet neer als heilige maar laat juist het hedendaagse zien, het heilige in het hedendaagse.
Hierbij is de buitenkant, het uiterlijk minder belangrijk, maar geïntegreerd in de omgeving.
De mens wordt geplaatst in een werkelijkheid zoals ik die zie: mijn perceptie van een natuurlijke omgeving van het desbetreffende individu, reagerend op hedendaagse situaties.

Etsen is voor mij een techniek waarin het technische aspect niet het belangrijkste is; de inhoud staat voorop.
Door de techniek echter ontstaan er wel telkens nieuwe mogelijkheden.

Introduction

After studying at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and working here and there for a while, I went back to Friesland, where I was born.
I have been working there for six years now, mainly focusing on print making and been making intensive use of the possibilities of the GAF, the Grafisch Atelier Friesland, an open workshop for graphical artists in Friesland.

Fries Museum has recently bought some of my works and during the Frisian Mini-Print Biennale I won the first prize for young talent.
Besides working at the GAF, I focus on Artist-in-Residence programs abroad as well as exhibiting in other parts of the country besides the north of the Netherlands.

For a period of time I created images of everyday situations that involved anthropomorphic figures.

After this I tried to portray man as a holy icon, a 21st century icon.
This started with a triptych.



At the moment I’m coming back to where I started.
I am not showing man as holy, but am showing contemporariness, holiness in the present day.
The external, so looks, are becoming less important, but integrate into the environment.
A person is placed into a reality as I see it: my perception of the natural environment of that particular individual reacting to present day situations.



To me, etching is a technique in which the technical aspect is not the most important; content comes first.
However, the technique keeps creating new possibilities.
